Cover Letter Guideline

Cover Letter Guideline

Cover letter is a brief introduction of who you are, the position you are applying for and why you would make a good fit to the company. Keep in mind that if you are sending your resume through an email, writing cover letter in the email content itself would be a better choice because it will be convenient for the Recruiter/Hiring Manager to read your cover letter through email.

1. Heading

 The heading of the cover letter should contain your current contact information. For example;

  • Name
  • Phone Number
  • Email ID (skip if you have applying by email)
  • Address (optional)
  • Online Portfolio (if applicable)
  • Link to LinkedIn profile (if applicable)

2. Salutation

The salutation is to greet to the intended reader. Thus, address it to the Recruiter/Hiring Manager. Bear in mind to avoid using general greeting like “To whom it may concern”.

3. Opening Paragraph

The opening paragraph of a cover letter should outline the job you are applying for and why. You should demonstrate your interest in the position that you are applying for.

4. Body Paragraph

The body of your cover letter should be made up of one or two paragraphs that highlights the relevant experiences you have gained in your previous jobs.

5. Final Paragraph

In the final section of your cover letter, summarize your skills and experience and your goals. In the last sentence, thank the Recruiter/Hiring Manager for considering your qualifications and state your intention to follow up.
